Slide rules HOME page COLLECTION 10" RULES GERMANY
Make Aristo, Germany
Model 0968 Studio (from two different dates)
Notes

1. Whilst this rule would deserve inclusion on its own - it represents one of the most comprehensive produced by this major German manufacturer - it is also included to show in some detail the small "improvements" introduced over time. The two rules were probably produced over a fifteen year period, from the mid 1950s to the mid 1970s.

2. Among the differences are:

  • Use of yellow colour banding.
  • Two tan scales on later model (covering 5.5° to 45° and 45° to 84.5°).
  • The use of an all plastic cursor on the later model.
  • Rubber "feet" and supports on the later rule.
  • Different numbering; for example of the LL03 scale the number goes .1,.08,.06,.04 and .02 on earlier model and .1, .05 and .02 on later model.

3. The earlier model came in a cloth covered cardboard case and the later in a hard plastic case.

4. An almost identical copy was made in Czechoslovakia by Logarex.

Manufacturing date The earlier of the two was  made in 1958 and the later one in 1973 (the documentation has a photograph on the back cover of other Aristo products including an M75 electronic calculator with several scientific function keys!). The earlier rule has the date code 5819, which means that 1958 was the year of manufacture and it was batch 19. The later rule actually has a data code of 2LST13 printed on it. The letters can be converted to numbers from the ARISTOFLEX, where the A is 0 and so on. The first number is for the factory (2= Hamburg, 3=Geretsried and 4= Woergl in Austria). The digits after the letters refer to the batch number. (My thanks to Klaus Kuehn for the information).
